Before settling on Debian I was considering CentOS so if thats still a viable option I'm not opposed to it. Parrot Security OS is an open source distribution of Linux based on the well known and award winning Debian GNU/Linux operating system. I've read that MATE is better resource wise but that KDE on modern machines as as robust as MATE performance wise now as well.
